Efficiently managing a growing workforce is essential for business success.
But if your HR department still relies on paper documents and old computer programs for hiring, onboarding, employee appraisals, and other tasks, you should consider upgrading to employee management software solutions – outdated tools and systems can often cause more problems than they’ll help you avoid.
Employee performance management software simplifies managing personnel and payroll while improving productivity and boosting employee morale.

Highlights
Workyard is employee management software designed for construction, maintenance, field, and home service companies of any size.
It gives you a complete view of your field operations using one scheduling, job tracking, time management, and reporting system. Workyard eliminates hours of manual work for your payroll administrators and makes it easy for supervisors to monitor teams in the field while helping your workers stay on schedule with their jobs.
Hassle-Free Job Scheduling
You can schedule all types of work on Workyard, including longer-running projects, work orders, maintenance work, and emergency tasks. After creating your team’s schedules and assigning tasks, you can instantly notify everyone assigned.
You can also send a bulk notification with their task assignments and work schedule for the calendar period. Your team can view their assignments and update their tasks on the Workyard app while you can monitor their progress in real time.
Accurate, Easy-to-Use Time Clock
Workyard designed its GPS-enabled time clock for ease of use. Your employees can learn to use it in minutes and manually clock in or out for meal breaks and the end of their shifts.
Whether your crew clocks in manually or automatically through geofencing, you’ll always have precise records to keep payroll and labor costs in check.
The time clock can also automatically clock them in once they enter a job site or a geofence and out once they leave the premises. Supervisor clock-ins are also possible when you want to log in multiple team members in one go.
When they clock out, employees will see a simple time card summary, including start times, breaks, assignment times, notes, end times, and total time worked.
Real-Time Job Tracking
You can also access tools for overseeing and managing your team’s work through live employee locations. Whether they’re traveling to the next job site or making a quick supply run to the paint store, Workyard tracks all their movements and captures all data in real time.
While your team works, you can check your employee hours to see how much time is spent on a particular task or project. You can also view mileage and travel times to various job sites.
Employees, meanwhile can share real-time job progress on the Workyard app and add notes, photos, and other relevant attachments to their time cards. These updates are instantly shared to other team members and their managers or supervisors for up-to-date feedback.
For construction teams handling detailed task lists, punch list software can help streamline operations.
Insights and Reports
Make data-driven decisions and improve your operations with the comprehensive data collected by Workyard. Every piece of data your team logs is automatically updated in the Workyard’s dashboard, allowing you to drill down on where time and money are allocated.
These insights also help you optimize projects, boost team productivity, monitor project costs and expenses, and spot trends to run your business more profitably. All these detailed reports can also be exported in Excel, PDF, and CSV formats.
Built-In Labor Compliance
Workyard simplifies and automates labor compliance with local, state, and federal labor regulations with its FLSA-compliant recordkeeping requirements.
All time records are kept securely online, and employees can easily search and access them when they need to. Workyard also maintains a complete GPS audit trail and log of every change made to time cards.
Ensuring labor compliance is crucial for companies working in high-cost areas. For state-specific requirements, refer to our labor laws guides below:
Reviews
Although Workyard’s review totals across three platforms are not as numerous as those for some other apps, it has earned a solid rating of 4.2 for iOS users and 4.1 for Android users. Its highest rating is on Capterra, where it received a near-perfect score of 4.9 for 62 reviews.
See what Workyard users have to say below.
iOS user cesarcien1980 likes that Workyard automatically captures when an employee arrives and leaves a project site. Their workers also like the automatic clock-in feature because they are confident they will submit accurate timecards.
iOS Review:
Accurate employee time cards ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve been impressed with how well the GPS data has worked. When we started using Workyard, we were trying to eliminate the time-consuming back and forth that usually goes into making sure time cards are accurate. One of the biggest problems we have is that our employees forget to clock in when they arrive on site. Workyard allowed us to set the addresses for all of our job sites so that when an employee arrives at the project, Workyard uses GPS to capture their actual arrival time. If they forgot to clock in and do it, say, an hour later, we have that audit trail to compare to. We can see that they arrived on site at 7 am vs. an 8:15 am clock-in. Our workers love it because when they forget to clock in, it’s almost always an honest mistake. This way, they feel confident their time card is going to be accurate, and they’ll get paid what they deserve.”
Casey Reeves’s two-star rating for the Android app is due to filter issues that don’t update the list of workers, resulting in too much scrolling to find one time card.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐
The filter option resets regularly, requiring a repeat of the process. Lately, the filter does not update the list of workers, requiring scrolling through hundreds of employees to approve only a few timecards. If my company did not mandate it, I would not use this app.”
Bishop B., a construction company project manager, gave Workyard a five-star rating for all its tracking features, from costs and mileage to employee hours.
Capterra Review:
Q & A construction services ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My overall experience is a 10. Customer support was prompt. I like that I’m able to track my money and how it’s being spent, what it’s being spent on, what hours are used for driving hours, and being able to track my employees to make sure they’re not milking the clock. I look forward to doing more business with you guys. Thank you so much for your help.”

Reviews

It also has over 12,000 reviews and a rating of 4.7 on the App Store. Still, the app has its share of pros and cons, as these reviews below say.
iOS user kevinkhoin isn’t that impressed with the mobile app, saying the redesign of the clock-in button caused its performance issues.
iOS Review:
A few months later, same flaws but cripplingly slow ⭐
Let’s be honest here. The original redesign with the clock-in button in the middle was perfect as it was before. Moving it around was a software engineer’s excuse to justify their job, a solution in search of a non-existent problem. Now about the performance, it’s terrible. I used to have no performance issues clocking in and out as normal. Every time I clock in and leave the app running in the background, I open it back up and refresh rate like 10 FPS (basically stutters). It’s that bad. It’s not my device, which is fairly recent, either. Get it together!”
Android user jasoncollege24 likes the app for logging in and out. However, he encounters issues with fingerprint logins and location data permission.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐
“The app is great for things like clocking in and out, grabbing pay stubs, etc. Unfortunately, in the Play Store, it says location data is optional. But the app requires location data to be on. There’s nothing optional about that! If permission is required, that should be made blatantly obvious. This app is also refusing to let me log in with my fingerprint if the app has been idle for a while. Dealing with this problem keeps causing me to clock in late!”
Meanwhile, Jason R., an operations director for a construction company, gave BambooHR five stars for its ease of use and employee engagement.
Capterra Review:
Easy to use, great employee engagement ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Easy to use for my employees. Smartphone compatibility is perfect. PTO requests are quick, and manager approval helps.”

Highlights
As employee management software, Workforce.com’s core strengths are HR, payroll, and automatic staff scheduling, particularly in companies with hourly workforces. It offers three products with different features: Scheduling, HR, and Payroll.
The Scheduling plan is designed for operations and front-line teams and includes scheduling, labor forecasting, task checklists, communications, and shift management.
The HR plan is for HR professionals and leaders and offers features such as onboarding, offboarding, HRIS, a self-service portal, time and attendance, performance and engagement, and safety management.
The Payroll plan, meanwhile, is for payroll managers and teams and has full-service payroll, wage and hour automation, time and attendance, and payroll and compliance reporting features.
If you’re exploring software with robust reporting, Contractor Foreman is another excellent option to consider.
Reviews
Workforce.com has solid scores across three review platforms, a good indication of its mobile app features and functionality. But it’s not without drawbacks, as these users have shared in their reviews.
Brandon Hal’s biggest issue is contacting Workforce.com’s customer service and receiving no technical support when they experience problems with the mobile app.
iOS Review:
Zero customer service. You can’t even talk to anyone? ⭐
When it works, it works. But if you have any problems, they have no contact information and zero customer service. We are just going to have to delete them and go with someone else. Be careful when using something like this when there is no number, address, or email to contact anyone. All I needed was my phone number changed so I could log in to see my pay stub. After weeks of trying, we are now going to use a different service.”
Cath Mcgrigor gave the Android version a three-star rating because she can’t use it for multiple clients and access important information for her job.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐
“If you work for two companies that require the use of this app by staff, you can only use it for one of them. Because of this, I could not access any information vital to me for one of my jobs. No payslips, no start or separation date, no rosters, nothing. One app containing so much vital information to one person is just wrong when it is so inherently flawed. Especially when a financial climate like this demands the user to have multiple jobs, yet not the ability to use it for more than one job.”
Capterra Review:
Mihail T. shared his experience using Workforce.com, saying its best features are the customizable dashboard, workforce management, and employee engagement features.
Reliability and dependability in full control. Workforce.com is the best. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Awesome experience. It’s a game changer software which is doubtlessly amazing. This software is the best in saving time and labor for shift workforces. I have enjoyed an easy-to-use and customizable dashboard. Employee engagement is at its best, giving the freedom over workforce management needs. It is cost-effective and very impactful. I highly recommend Workforce.com.”

Reviews
Rippling has earned solid scores across three review platforms, receiving an almost perfect score on Capterra from over 3,000 reviews. However, you can readily find online reviews from less happy users.
Kimmy Lynn’s five-star rating is because of her smooth onboarding experience.
iOS Review:
Gets everyone on the same page ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rippling was a relatively new adoption at my current employer, and I’ve never had onboarding be such a seamless process. What usually takes days wasted on the front end, Rippling facilitated and automated to happen about an hour well before my first day. Beyond onboarding, it provides so much clarity in knowledge from the planned holiday calendar to the organizational chart—both smoothed out “ripples” I otherwise thought were inescapable as an employee.”
James Poplin gave it a one-star rating because of the poor customer service when they had an issue with an insurance coverage verification.
Google Play Review:
⭐
“This is the worst HR company setup I’ve ever dealt with. They don’t want anyone to communicate with them (especially when they know they’ve screwed up). They don’t have anything approaching competency in their customer service program, and it takes them weeks to do the simplest action items, like making a two-minute phone call to an insurance company to verify coverage. If I wasn’t forced to use this POS system for work I’d never, ever work with them again. I wish I could give zero stars.”
Gary J., a human resources manager for an IT company, gave it a five-star review for handling everything staff-related, which streamlined their hiring and business operations.
Capterra Review:
Rippling is a business process integration platform ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In general, I’ve had a great time using Rippling. Having a central hub for handling everything relating to staff has dramatically streamlined how we do business. Human resources, information technology, and financial processes are now fully integrated, resulting in significant time savings and fewer mistakes. Particularly notable is the speedy onboarding process, which has helped us streamline our hiring practices and get to work faster.”

Reviews
Homebase has thousands of reviews on three review platforms. With over 50,000 App Store reviews, it received its highest rating of 4.8 and a 4.6 score on the Play Store and Capterra.
Although the scores are impressive, there are still some reviewers who shared its drawbacks.
Triasb likes how Homebase makes it easy to prepare schedules even on the free plan, so she’s considering subscribing to the paid version.
iOS Review:
Amazing app! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This app makes our scheduling a breeze and makes my job easier. So thankful I found it! I have been using the free version for months now and am looking at upgrading to the paid version. So many benefits to this schedule system. I am a manager in the corporate sector but also have my own business. I am seeing many benefits in being able to use both options. The only downside is you have to pay a fee for each “location.” Would be nice for the system to be able to make several schedules that can cross-communicate for companies totally unrelated to each other and not have a huge fee for each location.”
Shelby Tidwell’s two-star rating for the Android version is related to her not receiving push notifications, being unable to delete old messages, and having problems saving her wages.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐
“Since updating, it won’t save my wage. Notifications are active, yet nothing will push to my phone (especially when my schedule changes). Can’t delete old messages. Other than that, I can log on every day to see my schedule, and I like how it keeps a running count of time. Has helped in deciding if I volunteer to go home early or need to stay.”
Bryan H., director of an e-learning company, thinks Homebase offers many good features. However, the messaging feature constantly stops working, and the schedule feature can be made easier.
Capterra Review:
Good options but struggles at times ⭐⭐⭐⭐
We have used Homebase for our needs for the last seven years. There are many features that are nice that we use. The time clock is the main feature that we use, as it allows our team members to clock in and out right from their phones. It also gives them how many hours they have worked and how much pay they have made. But the message and schedule feature is hard and constantly stops working, so our team members don’t get the notifications. Also, trying to schedule for a month at a time is very hard. I have asked that they make it easier, but nothing has changed.”

Reviews
Zoho Workplace doesn’t have a huge volume of online reviews. As of this review, it has earned a 4.3 rating on the App Store with just five published reviews, and a 2.7 rating on the Play Store with 56 reviews.
However, it earned its highest rating of 4.6 on Capterra with 21 reviews.
For Android user Sriram Premi, it’s only a three-star rating because of the mobile app’s limitations.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐
In the PC version, Zoho Workplace handles every single application in one tab, from Zoho Cliq to Zoho Meetings, which is way too convenient. But in the mobile app, it just asks us to install every app individually and serves as just a redirection portal. It would be better if it serves the same way as PC or at least in the screenshots included.”
Capterra Reviews:
Cesar Josue A. gave Zoho Workplace a five-star rating for its collaboration solutions at an affordable price. He also mentioned its user-friendliness and robust security features.
An all-in-one online collaboration solution with solid security and affordable price ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Zoho Workplace is an online collaboration platform that provides a wide range of tools for managing email, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, video conferencing, and team chat. It is user-friendly and offers robust security features to protect user data. Zoho Workplace is a good choice for businesses of any size looking for an all-in-one software solution at an affordable price with flexible pricing plans.”
Another user finds it a great online collaboration tool, making switching tasks and streamlining communications easy. However, the interface and number of tools and features can still be improved.
Zoho Workplace: Online Collaboration ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s great with Zoho Workplace for collaborating online and switching between tasks so effortlessly. The way it integrates all the features and platforms and provides streamlined communication really helps me. But its interface can be better and should extend the number of collaboration tools and features.”

Reviews
Over 20,000 user reviews have been recorded for Paycor on the App Store and Play Store. Its highest rating is 4.6 on the App Store, followed by a 4.4 rating on Capterra and a 3.2 overall score on the Play Store.
Despite the solid scores, reviews still state the software’s drawbacks, like the ones below.
According to iOS user kdchmln, Paycor misses their punch-ins and constantly logs everyone out of the app. There’s also no way to quickly view a particular schedule without a lot of scrolling.
iOS Review:
If you’re thinking of switching to Paycor, don’t. ⭐
Paycor misses clock punches, logs everyone out of the app constantly, has log-in issues, no way to react to messages, and no way to send pictures in messages (must use a clunky feature called “Engage” for this, which really isn’t the same thing). And if you want to see who you’re working with on a Saturday, you have to scroll for a while through your entire company’s schedule for that week to get to the day you want to look at, as there is no way to quickly jump to a particular day.”
FireBoy153 uses the Android version and only gave it a one-star rating because of the frequent app crashes.
Google Play Review:
⭐
App frequently crashes, doesn’t load, and keeps saying something’s not available. I have an extremely low success rate of using it and clocking in on time. On way too many occasions, it has led to no punch, mispunch, or out-of-bounds punch due to this app’s performance. It’s not just me. It’s every user in our organization. I will be glad when we are rid of it. It basically acts just as good as the entire service, Paycor in general is cord. Stick to a pen and paper as it’s more reliable.”
But it’s a different experience for Melissa C., a human resources generalist for a healthcare company. She gave it five stars for the reduced time on payroll and easier hiring and performance review processes.
Capterra Review:
When it comes to payroll services, Paycor is one of the best ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The time spent on payroll has been reduced from two days to around two hours. From four different programs, we are now down to only one. We included tools to make manager tasks like hiring new staff and conducting performance reviews considerably easier.”

Capterra Reviews:
Titus M., a data analyst team leader for a consumer services company, gave Deel a five-star rating because of its security features and user-friendly interface.
Deel is revolutionizing the hiring and payment paradigm! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wonderful experience so far for the period I have used Deel. One thing I like with Deal is its SSL security which gives me peace of mind that both my information and assets are secure. The user interface is easy to navigate, and it gives multiple withdrawal options that basically suit anyone anywhere.”
Another reviewer gave it a two-star rating because of the lack of customer support after signing up.
If you are a small company, you don’t matter ⭐⭐
They start by getting your company solely on price comparison. And once you sign, the honeymoon phase ends and they disappear, which is not cool when dealing with global payrolls. After three months of no support or answers, I switched to a competitor, and I’m not coming back with them.

Check out some of the user reviews below.
iOS user Txkilroy thinks Connecteam has a good app because it saves them time and paperwork. But a dark mode setting will be an excellent addition for users with vision problems or working the graveyard shift.
iOS Review:
Good app but needs one thing… ⭐⭐⭐⭐
We use this app at work as security officers, and it does things well and saves paperwork. But it needs one big option, especially with some of us with vision issues and the graveyard guys. We need to be able to go to dark mode, either along with phone settings or as an option in the app settings. It’s very tough to look at a bright screen after your vision adjusts for darkness. Then try and be blinded by working on paperwork and then have to wait for vision to adjust to darkness again. Hopefully, the devs see this and fix it soon to help us and others out. Otherwise, no complaints, really elsewhere.”
For Eric Wilkie, the Android version deserves a four-star rating because it’s loaded with features, even if there are occasional bugs, and it’s not budget-friendly.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐⭐
There is nothing out there with such complete features. Bugs sometimes but nothing that affects functionality. Price is high when you want all features. But that’s the way they structure, and it is what I need, so I pay for it. Downtime is very little, still, there are no other options out there for my company. Great app on phone and desktop. Loaded with many things I still want to try, if it were more price-friendly with several hubs, it would be five stars.”
Bridgette B. only gave it a two-star rating because of the unresolved issues, even after a year. She shared their experience with buggy, slow schedule/time clock modules.
Capterra Review:
Buyer beware (you get what you pay for!) ⭐⭐
Good design, friendly customer service, courses, and updates work well. But the team has not been able to resolve most issues after a year. The scheduling module is full of bugs (the shifts tend to disappear or duplicate shifts appear for whatever reason, some jobs were sent to the wrong user, schedule is often slow, especially on mobile phones). The time clock module seems ok but be prepared to spend some time comparing time entries with job schedules on another screen. They could not build a comparison of actual vs standard hours in the app. The support and development team doesn’t seem to understand the cleaning industry. Communication with cleaners is problematic as there is no traceability or audit trail for actions and messages.”

Our Scoring System Explained
Our 8-part scoring system was created to help you understand the potential value of any software we review simply and fairly.
We created it after reviewing dozens of software products, which we covered in depth, but without providing a direct and simple way for readers to compare products on their merits – without spending a lot of time looking through our articles for the information they needed to make an informed decision.
Every app we review will include Customer Support and Company scores, which we’ll explain in more detail below. Many of the factors reviewed in this article will also be consistent across most (or all) of our software reviews, with some differences:
The 8 factors assessed and their contribution to a product’s overall score may differ slightly from product to product based on various factors, such as the use case we’re reviewing for, the type of business these products are tailored to, and other considerations. However, all reviews will feature an 8-part score, weighted and combined to calculate each product’s overall score.
How We Score Software
All factors in our reviews are scored on a 10-point scale – technically 11 points – from 0-10. However, we only give products a score of 0 if it does not include an essential feature at all, and we try to avoid giving out 0 scores if a product can demonstrate any functionality in line with the specific factor being reviewed.
In general, the 0-10 range translates as:
- 9.0 – 10 – One of the absolute best in its category (amazing).
- 7.5 – 8.9 – Very good, but with some minor issues (very good).
- 6.0 – 7.4 – Mediocre performance with notable shortcomings (average).
- 3.0 – 5.9 – This feature is not ready for prime time (borderline).
- 1.0 – 2.9 – This feature actually makes its product worse (unacceptable).
- 0 – The product doesn’t include this important feature at all.
How We Calculate Overall Scores
The 8 factors reviewed are weighted based on an overall total of 100%:
- Ease of Use: 20%
- Time Tracking Accuracy: 20%
- Scheduling Features: 15%
- Job Tracking: 15%
- Integrations: 10%
- Customer Support: 15%
- Company: 5%
Methodology for Each Factor
Ease of Use
We evaluate a product’s ease of use based on three main considerations:
- How easy is it to set up this app?
- How easy is it for managers to use the backend dashboard?
- How easy is it for frontline workers to use the (mobile) app?
These three considerations cover the main ways you and your team would use the software being reviewed – when you first obtain it, when someone (a manager, executive, team leader, or similar role) needs to use it to manage people, money, data, and other things, and when workers you’re tracking use the app (usually a mobile version of the software designed for frontline and/or field team members) to clock in, clock out, record time worked, or address other day-to-day needs.
Time Tracking Accuracy
Every minute matters when you’re trying to control payroll costs. This factor accounts for various features and common needs in time-tracking apps, such as…
- How accurate or precise is its GPS tracking capability?
- How accurate – and how customizable – is its geofencing feature?
- How accurate is its travel and mileage tracking (if available)?
- Can it automatically clock workers in and out based on the above?
- Can you set and/or restrict rules for clocking in and out?
- Can the app continue tracking workers while offline?
- How easy is its mobile app and/or kiosk for frontline workers?
Scheduling Features
Many construction businesses prefer to manage as many aspects of employee labor activity as possible in a single app, which is why many time-tracking apps also include worker scheduling as a core feature.
When we consider a product’s scheduling features, we look at:
- Its dashboard customizability (daily, weekly, or monthly views).
- Its project-based scheduling and visibility.
- Its real-time updates and notifications for workers.
- Its real-time map views of worker locations for best-fit scheduling.
- Its recurring schedule (copies to subsequent weeks, etc.) functionality.
Job Tracking
This factor helps you understand if the software can also provide insight into specific projects, which is particularly handy when your business deals with many customers or clients who generally need shorter-term work. Effective job tracking typically also includes accurate job costing functionality for construction companies.
We assess several things when calculating a product’s job tracking score:
- Its project-based tracking for multiple projects per day/week/etc.
- Its ability to track multiple / many projects simultaneously.
- Its use of (and your ability to customize) construction cost codes.
- Any built-in job costing views.
- Any integrations for cost coding (QuickBooks etc.)
Integrations
No business can operate on a single app, which is why integrations with other apps and tools are such important aspects of modern business software.
To calculate a product’s integration score, we’ll examine:
- How many native integrations (the simplest connection) does it offer?
- How effective and easy-to-use are its integrations with payroll software?
- Does it have robust data import and export features?
Customer Support
Learning how to use a new app can be frustrating, even if it’s meant to be the most user-friendly app around. That’s why great customer support is so essential when considering which time-tracking app to use.
Customer support scores are calculated based on:
- Live support channels available (phone, email, chat, etc.).
- Live support hours (business hours only, 24/7, etc.).
- The strength of the product’s online help center and/or FAQs.
- What other users say about support in online reviews.
Company
A great company with a highly customer-friendly approach can often make up for shortcomings in their software products – at least up to a point.
When assessing this score, we’ll examine:
- Transparency (easy-to-find pricing, etc.)
- Trial period (duration, feature availability, credit card requirements, etc.).
- Subscription flexibility (contracts, required durations, etc.).
- Ease of cancellation or pausing subscriptions.
- Customer perceptions (online product reviews).
- Website (a minor consideration, but great companies tend to have great websites).
