Workyard is a comprehensive tool designed to meet the needs of construction and landscaping companies.
One of its standout features is accurate GPS tracking and geofencing, which ensures precise location data for your team.
Workyard has rule-based, easily reviewed timecards that simplify payroll processing and ensure accurate record-keeping. For complex landscaping projects, Workyard offers streamlined worker scheduling.
Workyard helps businesses stay on top of labor laws and regulations with automated workforce compliance. The platform also provides detailed job and project tracking, along with real-time job costing.
Finally, Workyard integrates with many construction business apps.
This compatibility ensures you can connect all your tools in one place, making it easier to manage your operations and improve overall productivity. Workyard’s robust feature set makes it an indispensable asset for landscaping project management.
Accurate Time Tracking
Workyard’s time tracking is designed to be accurate and efficient. With precise GPS tracking, Workyard ensures you can monitor the clock-in locations of your team members. This feature enhances accountability and helps prevent time theft.
The platform offers rule-based timecards that simplify the process of recording work hours, which are easy to review and approve. Additionally, employees can easily clock in and out using their smartphones.
Workyard also provides detailed reports on employee hours. This data is helpful for making informed decisions and optimizing your workforce management. Real-time insights into work hours and job site attendance enable you to address pressing issues promptly.
GPS Tracking and Geofencing
Workyard’s GPS tracking and geofencing allows you to monitor the real-time location of your employees, ensuring they are where they need to be during work hours. This feature provides a clear overview of team movements and site attendance.
Geofencing takes this capability a step further by setting virtual boundaries around specific job sites. When employees enter or leave these predefined areas, Workyard automatically records their time, eliminating the need for manual clock-ins and outs.
In addition to improving time tracking accuracy, GPS tracking and geofencing help enhance safety and efficiency. You can quickly verify if all team members are present on-site, making it easier to coordinate tasks and respond to any issues that arise.
This real-time data also helps you ensure the right personnel are at the right place at the right time.
Job Costing
Workyard’s job costing capabilities are designed to give you precise control over your project budgets and expenditures.
By providing real-time insights into labor costs, material usage, and other project-related expenses, Workyard helps you keep projects on budget and make informed financial decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
As employees log their hours, Workyard automatically calculates labor costs associated with each task and project. This real-time data allows you to see exactly where your money is going and identify any discrepancies or areas where costs are exceeding expectations.
Workyard also offers detailed reporting on job costs, breaking down expenses by project, phase, or task. These reports provide a clear picture of your financial standing and help to forecast future expenses, keeping your bids competitive and profitable.
Easy Scheduling
With a user-friendly interface, Workyard allows you to easily create, modify, and manage schedules. This feature ensures that all team members know when and where they are needed, reducing confusion and minimizing downtime.
One of the key benefits of Workyard’s scheduling is its ability to handle complex projects with multiple phases and overlapping tasks.
You can assign specific tasks to individual employees or teams, ensuring every aspect of your project is covered. The system also allows you to set priorities and deadlines, making it easier to keep your projects on track and meet your timelines. When changes occur, you can quickly adjust the schedule and notify your team instantly.
Detailed Reporting
Workyard’s reporting capabilities offer insights into every aspect of your landscaping projects. The platform provides a wide range of customizable reports that cover everything from labor costs and employee productivity to project expenses and overall financial performance.
One of Workyard’s most valuable reporting features is its real-time data access. You can generate up-to-the-minute reports that reflect the current status of your projects.
This allows you to drill down into specific details. Whether you need to analyze the costs of individual tasks, monitor the performance of particular employees, or track the overall progress of a project, the platform provides the granularity you need.
Another key advantage is the ability to generate visual reports. Graphs, charts, and other visual aids make it easier to interpret complex data and communicate findings to stakeholders.
Reviews
At the time of publication, Workyard had the following ratings:
On the iOS App Store, Jeshua P. said Workyard is very user-friendly…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“The clock in process is super simple. Correcting times in real time before the stamp makes it so much easier. Automatically detects the site when you arrive so the app already has the right site readily available.”
Randy J. said the Android version of Workyard’s app is “amazing.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“It allows me, as a technician, if I accidentally forget to sign in to a customer, to have proof I was there with the GPS location. It overall makes it easier on management because they can see where all the techs are and, when new customers call in, they’re able to call the nearest tech to pick up more business. Overall, a very needed app for any business that has several techs or employees who are mobile. And it makes tracking hours easy.”
In February 2024, business owner Desirea B. left a Capterra review stating Workyard “succeeded my expectations in every way.”
Best app for my company ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“I have been so busy that I haven’t spent enough time doing little things in it that I want to do but I am blown away at how simple it as to implement this into our company and set up the guys saving time and energy chasing down receipts, photos of the jobs, daily updates on job statuses, and timesheets. It is a timesaver and blessing!”

PRO Landscape is a tool designed for landscaping professionals. The software offers an extensive library of plants, hardscapes, and other landscape elements, allowing users to create detailed and visually appealing designs.
PRO Landscape’s intuitive layout makes it accessible after some training. The drag-and-drop functionality simplifies the design process, enabling users to quickly create and modify their projects.
PRO Landscape also provides robust presentation tools. The software allows you to generate 3D renderings and photo imaging, giving clients a realistic preview of the finished project.
However, PRO Landscape is resource-intensive, requiring a powerful computer to run smoothly. Users with less advanced hardware might experience slower performance. While the design features are comprehensive, the software lacks project management tools. Users will need to complement it with other apps for scheduling, time tracking, and job costing.
Reviews
PRO Landscape has two mobile apps, PRO Landscape Companion and PRO Landscape Contractor.
PRO Landscape Companion is a complimentary app for users of the PRO Landscape design software. This app requires a PRO Landscape license to operate. PRO Landscape Contractor is for landscape professionals or avid gardeners looking for an independent landscape design app.
For our purposes, we’ll examine reviews of PRO Landscape Companion.
here’s a common thread through iOS reviews of PRO Landscape. Most reviews express frustration with the fact that the app is advertised as free, but has extremely limited features unless users acquire a PRO Landscape license.
iOS user Lisa says the app is “hard to use:”
⭐
“The most frustrating thing about this app is the shaping tool. It is an impractical design and is impossible to use. I can’t do the rest of my yard because of how bad the grass looks. Not all lawns have 90 degree corners. Why isn’t there an undo button? I have had to delete and restart the project constantly because of the lack of an undo last move option. Am I supposed to save it every time I add something? The app has also crashed a number of times the first day that I have had it. There is also an ad banner across the bottom of the screen even after you pay $15. Disappointing.”
Android users seem to express a similar sentiment, like this anonymous user…
⭐⭐⭐
“The description says that the desktop version of the app is required, & it means it: When you download the app & open it, you are asked to input your account info to activate the app. Apparently, you would only have such info if you had purchased the desktop software. And, yes, it is VERY expensive, aimed at pro landscapers. This is not targeted towards hobbyists or casual users. For the price of their desktop software, I hope both it & this app are worth it!”
Low reviews on mobile can likely be attributed to the fact that many first-time users are looking for a simple mobile app, but are immediately met with complex functions and high prices. That said, reviews on Capterra are slightly more positive, because Capterra users tend to be administrators or developers. Still, some are unhappy with PRO Landscape’s limited options…
Good Start ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“I wish the plant library was more robust and included more natives and more plants applicable to my zone. I wish that every plant in Image Editor could be chosen based on season so you could accurately show color and foliage all year long to a customer. I would love the color features to look more like hand drawings. I wish it was easier to add plants to Image Editor and Planner. It can be time consuming to edit out backgrounds.”

Highlights
iScape is known for its intuitive design and user-friendly features. One of its standout features is the AR functionality, which allows users to visualize landscape designs in real-time.
iScape also has an extensive library of plants, hardscapes, and other landscaping elements. Users can drag and drop these items into their designs, creating detailed and customized landscapes.
iScape also offers collaboration tools, enabling teams to share designs and ideas. This is particularly useful for larger projects where multiple stakeholders are involved.
However, iScape is primarily focused on design and lacks comprehensive project management features. Users looking for integrated scheduling, time tracking, and cost management will need to use additional software.
Additionally, while the app is excellent for visualizing designs, it does not offer the same level of detail and precision as some desktop-based design software.
Reviews
iScape has only been reviewed on the iOS App Store. Still, reviews are generally positive compared to similar apps in this space.
Still, many iScape reviews describe the app as “difficult to use.” iOS user CpG2014 said the iScape had “poor performance.”
Great concept, if it worked ⭐⭐
“I downloaded the app and tried using the image feature. Worked fine but I wanted to use the AR feature of the app. The flooring and objects would not sync to the floor and were floating at eye level. I watched videos on YouTube and did exactly how instructed multiple times. After multiple attempts over two days. Still did not work. Also, it would be nice to see basic outside furniture shapes. Straight and curved patio furniture. As I’m trying to plan our backyard.”

Yardbook is tailored specifically for landscaping and lawn care businesses.
The platform combines customer management, invoicing, and scheduling. A key strength of Yardbook is its CRM capabilities. The software allows users to maintain detailed records of their clients, track interactions, and manage service histories.
Yardbook also excels in its invoicing and payment processing features. Users can generate professional invoices, accept online payments, and track outstanding balances. In addition, the platform offers intuitive scheduling tools that allow users to assign jobs, set reminders, and manage workloads. This helps reduce the likelihood of missed appointments or scheduling conflicts.
While Yardbook offers a broad range of features, it is less advanced in areas like design and project visualization compared to specialized landscaping design software. Users seeking detailed design tools might need to use Yardbook in conjunction with other design-focused apps.
If you’re looking specifically for a scheduling tool, this list of recommended lawn care scheduling software is a great start.
Reviews
Yardbook is absent from the iOS App Store. Still, reviews on Google Play and Capterra are relatively positive, with most of its reviews coming from Android users.
Android user Brigitte N. said the app is less functional than its desktop counterpart…
⭐⭐⭐
“The app is missing some key features compared to the desktop/web version. Currently the app doesn’t allow the user to “add” a new job under the Jobs tab. You have to open the Customer tab, select that customer then you can create a new job from there. Or, you have to select “more features” to open up the phone-web version of Yardbook to access the nifty “+” that allows you to jump into creating a new job regardless of which page you’re on. The “+” feature would be great to add to the app!!”
Business owner Ryan D. said the software doesn’t work well for larger companies…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“I would say the only issue for us with this software is our company got a little too large for it and started to outgrow it. We could still use it and it would work fine but we upgraded to other software with automations to decrease our admin time.”

Jobber is a business management tool designed to help service-based businesses. It has comprehensive job scheduling and dispatching capabilities that allow you to schedule jobs, assign them to team members, and track progress in real time.
Additionally, Jobber allows you to create professional invoices, send them to clients, and accept payments online. Jobber also supports recurring invoicing, which is ideal for businesses that offer regular maintenance services.
Jobber’s CRM tools are robust, providing detailed customer profiles and interaction histories. The software also includes automated reminders and follow-ups.
In terms of reporting, Jobber offers insightful analytics and performance metrics. You can track key business indicators, such as revenue, expenses, and employee productivity.
While Jobber excels in operational management, it lacks advanced design and project visualization features found in specialized landscaping design software. Users looking for detailed landscape design tools might need to pair Jobber with other applications.
Reviews
Jobber has garnered thousands of reviews across iOS, Google Play, and Capterra. While most reviews are positive, many users note Jobber’s poor customer support…
This anonymous iOS was having issues with Jobber, but hesitated to contact customer support…
Sales tax issues with multiple locations ⭐⭐⭐
“I’d contact customer service for this but I don’t have hours to deal with it. That’s the primary problem with Jobber. Any contact with customer service and they will make sure you spend hours of your valuable time talking about it. My problem today is simple, all locations were marked as no sales tax when they were entered. If my tech selects the parent client location it applies sales tax. As it is now, I have to spend time checking the client’s invoices and edit them.”
Android user Greg B. says he experienced severe performance issues…
⭐
“Server connections very spotty, doesn’t work well with Google maps in that all routes are in offline mode. Very laggy, systems are convoluted and confusing. I will not use for my own business but am forced to by my employer. Maybe it’s great for apple but not android.”
On Capterra, business owner Joffrey B. also had issues with customer support…
Poor customer support ⭐⭐⭐
“Their support is bad. It takes forever to talk or email someone. Days up to a week. And the person typically forwards you to someone else. Then that person doesn’t know what they are talking about. It is like pulling teeth.”

Highlights
Leafsnap is an app designed to help users identify plant species quickly and accurately. Its standout feature is its plant identification capability, which leverages image recognition technology.
Users can simply take a photo of a leaf, flower, or tree, and Leafsnap will provide detailed information about the species. This feature is particularly useful for landscapers who need to identify plants on the job site or when planning new designs.
Another significant strength of Leafsnap is its extensive database of plant species. The app includes high-quality images and detailed descriptions of various plants, trees, and shrubs. This comprehensive resource aids in both plant identification and education.
Leafsnap also offers a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to navigate and access information. This efficiency is crucial for landscapers who need to make quick decisions on-site.
However, while Leafsnap excels at plant identification, it lacks broader landscaping management features. The app does not offer tools for scheduling, job costing, or project management, which are essential for running a landscaping business.
Reviews
Leafsnap has mixed reviews from iPhone and Android users. While many find it helpful, some say the identification features are inadequate.
An anonymous iOS user stated that the app isn’t as accurate as it claims…
Generic Results ⭐
“The app can’t always identify the plant. It gives you several generic answers. Like too much or too little water. For the price, it’s not worth it you can google for information. They only give 3 days free offer then they charge you.”
Android user Cris P. also said the app wasn’t able to identify many plants…
⭐⭐
“In the past year your app has not been able to identify over half the plants I’ve given you. I want to cancel, but where? I am grateful to have an app that helps me identify plants on the fly. I did have to drop a star because I have a couple of plants that were incorrectly identified so I still have no idea what’s growing in my garden.”

One of FieldRoutes’ standout features is its comprehensive route optimization capabilities. FieldRoutes allows you to plan and optimize routes for your team. This feature is particularly beneficial for businesses with multiple daily appointments.
Another significant strength of FieldRoutes is its detailed scheduling and dispatching tools. You can assign tasks to team members, track their progress in real-time, and adjust schedules as needed. FieldRoutes also excels in customer relationship management.
The software also provides tools for maintaining detailed customer profiles, tracking service histories, and managing communications.
Additionally, FieldRoutes offers robust invoicing and payment processing features. Users can generate and send invoices, accept online payments, and track financial transactions effortlessly.
However, FieldRoutes does not offer advanced design and project visualization tools commonly found in specialized landscaping software. Users focused on detailed landscape design might need to use FieldRoutes in conjunction with other design-specific apps.
Reviews
FieldRoutes reviews on mobile devices are poor. Poor reviews say bad customer support, bugs, and glitches impact the overall experience.
An anonymous iOS user said the app “constantly bugs out…”
⭐
“…ever since we had to switch to field routes, everyday has become a headache at work. The app constantly bugs out and jumbles my route around after I schedule it which results in an array of issues. It takes forever to load and the customer service is just about useless. I thought pest routes was annoying at times but this has truly made work stressful on a daily basis and if your company is considering using them, I strongly advise not to. It’ll result in frustrated and inefficient workers. Truly praying something gets fixed fasts.”
Android user Brandown W. said the app was on the decline in June 2024…
⭐
“This app continues to get worse. Been having an issue where rodent subscriptions won’t load and credit/debit cards won’t save in the field. These 2 issues have been going on for almost a month and nothing has been done to remedy the problem. I’m using an s23 so it’s not old. Terrible app. Constantly crashing and losing all the data I inputed.”
Longstanding FieldRoutes customer and business owner Jared W. said he’s had enough with the customer service…
⭐⭐
“Customer service is ridiculous. I have been a customer for 5 years now because I like the software, but I’m at the point where I am fed up with not feeling like a priority. When issues come up be ready to wait for days, weeks, and even months for a solution. Currently I have been locked out of my account for 3 days due to a bad card on file, and even though I paid the balance in full the second I was locked out, they have made no effort to get me back into my account to run my business, which has been on hold for three days now. This isn’t even the worst thing I’ve experienced with their customer support, but I already wrote a novel review elsewhere on that experience. I am currently looking at competitors because I am blown away by the lack of interest in their customers. Not being able to run a business for three days because customer service won’t get me back into my account after they have been paid is completely unacceptable.”

Our Scoring System Explained
Our 8-part scoring system was created to help you understand the potential value of any software we review simply and fairly.
We created it after reviewing dozens of software products, which we covered in depth, but without providing a direct and simple way for readers to compare products on their merits – without spending a lot of time looking through our articles for the information they needed to make an informed decision.
Every app we review will include Customer Support and Company scores, which we’ll explain in more detail below. Many of the factors reviewed in this article will also be consistent across most (or all) of our software reviews, with some differences:
The 8 factors assessed and their contribution to a product’s overall score may differ slightly from product to product based on various factors, such as the use case we’re reviewing for, the type of business these products are tailored to, and other considerations. However, all reviews will feature an 8-part score, weighted and combined to calculate each product’s overall score.
How We Score Software
All factors in our reviews are scored on a 10-point scale – technically 11 points – from 0-10. However, we only give products a score of 0 if it does not include an essential feature at all, and we try to avoid giving out 0 scores if a product can demonstrate any functionality in line with the specific factor being reviewed.
In general, the 0-10 range translates as:
- 9.0 – 10 – One of the absolute best in its category (amazing).
- 7.5 – 8.9 – Very good, but with some minor issues (very good).
- 6.0 – 7.4 – Mediocre performance with notable shortcomings (average).
- 3.0 – 5.9 – This feature is not ready for prime time (borderline).
- 1.0 – 2.9 – This feature actually makes its product worse (unacceptable).
- 0 – The product doesn’t include this important feature at all.
How We Calculate Overall Scores
The 8 factors reviewed are weighted based on an overall total of 100%:
- Ease of Use: 20%
- Time Tracking Accuracy: 20%
- Scheduling Features: 15%
- Job Tracking: 15%
- Integrations: 10%
- Customer Support: 15%
- Company: 5%
Methodology for Each Factor
Ease of Use
We evaluate a product’s ease of use based on three main considerations:
- How easy is it to set up this app?
- How easy is it for managers to use the backend dashboard?
- How easy is it for frontline workers to use the (mobile) app?
These three considerations cover the main ways you and your team would use the software being reviewed – when you first obtain it, when someone (a manager, executive, team leader, or similar role) needs to use it to manage people, money, data, and other things, and when workers you’re tracking use the app (usually a mobile version of the software designed for frontline and/or field team members) to clock in, clock out, record time worked, or address other day-to-day needs.
Time Tracking Accuracy
Every minute matters when you’re trying to control payroll costs. This factor accounts for various features and common needs in time-tracking apps, such as…
- How accurate or precise is its GPS tracking capability?
- How accurate – and how customizable – is its geofencing feature?
- How accurate is its travel and mileage tracking (if available)?
- Can it automatically clock workers in and out based on the above?
- Can you set and/or restrict rules for clocking in and out?
- Can the app continue tracking workers while offline?
- How easy is its mobile app and/or kiosk for frontline workers?
Scheduling Features
Many construction businesses prefer to manage as many aspects of employee labor activity as possible in a single app, which is why many time-tracking apps also include worker scheduling as a core feature.
When we consider a product’s scheduling features, we look at:
- Its dashboard customizability (daily, weekly, or monthly views).
- Its project-based scheduling and visibility.
- Its real-time updates and notifications for workers.
- Its real-time map views of worker locations for best-fit scheduling.
- Its recurring schedule (copies to subsequent weeks, etc.) functionality.
Job Tracking
This factor helps you understand if the software can also provide insight into specific projects, which is particularly handy when your business deals with many customers or clients who generally need shorter-term work. Effective job tracking typically also includes accurate job costing functionality for construction companies.
We assess several things when calculating a product’s job tracking score:
- Its project-based tracking for multiple projects per day/week/etc.
- Its ability to track multiple / many projects simultaneously.
- Its use of (and your ability to customize) construction cost codes.
- Any built-in job costing views.
- Any integrations for cost coding (QuickBooks etc.)
Integrations
No business can operate on a single app, which is why integrations with other apps and tools are such important aspects of modern business software.
To calculate a product’s integration score, we’ll examine:
- How many native integrations (the simplest connection) does it offer?
- How effective and easy-to-use are its integrations with payroll software?
- Does it have robust data import and export features?
Customer Support
Learning how to use a new app can be frustrating, even if it’s meant to be the most user-friendly app around. That’s why great customer support is so essential when considering which time-tracking app to use.
Customer support scores are calculated based on:
- Live support channels available (phone, email, chat, etc.).
- Live support hours (business hours only, 24/7, etc.).
- The strength of the product’s online help center and/or FAQs.
- What other users say about support in online reviews.
Company
A great company with a highly customer-friendly approach can often make up for shortcomings in their software products – at least up to a point.
When assessing this score, we’ll examine:
- Transparency (easy-to-find pricing, etc.)
- Trial period (duration, feature availability, credit card requirements, etc.).
- Subscription flexibility (contracts, required durations, etc.).
- Ease of cancellation or pausing subscriptions.
- Customer perceptions (online product reviews).
- Website (a minor consideration, but great companies tend to have great websites).
Any questions about our scoring system? Have any suggestions on how we could make it even better? Click here to send us your feedback – we’d love to hear from you!
